Subject: Amendment to Newsrack Ordinance
Introduction
This report requests the City Council to direct the City Attorney to prepare
an ordinance amending the present newsrack ordinance.
Background
In 1979, the Clty Council adopted a new ordinance controlling news racks and
established special requlrements for newsracks located ln Zone A. This zone
is on Wilshire Boulevard and on Fifth and Sixth Streets from Santa Monlca
Boulevard to Wilshire Boulevard.
At this time, staff recommends enlarging the area encompassed by Zone A of
Ordinance 1131 (CCS) to include the Mall, Santa Monlca Place, and that portion
of Lincoln Boulevard between Broadway and Colorado (See attached map). These
areas have, or will have, a large concentration of news stands. It will be to
the City's benefit to regulate the type of news stands used in the area.
Recommendation
It is recommended Clty Councll direct the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance
amending Section 6252(b) of Chapter 2A of Artlcle VI of the Code enlarglng
Zone A.
