RetIrement and DISposItIon of PolIce SerVIce Dog.
IntroductIon:
ThIS Report concerns the RetIrement of LIdo, a PolIce SerVIce Dog
who has gIven SIX years of dIstInguIshed serVIce to the CIty of
Santa MonIca.
Background:
ApproXImately SIX years ago the CIty of Santa MonIca purchased a
polIce serVIce dog named LIdo and recently assIgned OffIcer W.S.
Brown as handler. DurIng theIr tour of duty OffIcer Brown and
LIdo have dIstIngUIShed themselves as an outstandIng PolIce Ca-
nIne Team.
They have partIcIpated In numerous felony arrests,
receIved awards and commendatIons from varIOUS law enforcement
agenCIes and have saved the CIty countless man-hours In bUIldIng
and area searches.
WIthIn the past SIX months, LIdo has become phYSIcally Incapable
of contInuIng In polIce serVIce. He has large cataracts In both
eyes WhICh are not treatable. He also has undergone several
maJor operatIons for the removal of tumors In hIS IntestInal
tract.
In the opInIon of the veterInarIan who prOVIdes medIcal
care for the polIce serVIces dogs, LIdo 15 no longer able to
work.

RecommendatIon
In VIew of the dogls medIcal condItIon and hIS IllustrIous record
of serVIce to the CIty of Santa MonIca, It IS recommended that
LIdo De sold to OffIcer Brown for the sum of one dollar.
