SUBJECT: Proposed Ordinance ConcernIng Licensing of Hypnotists
INTRODUCTION
This report transmIts for Introduction a proposed ordinance
amendIng various sections of the MunIcIpal Code to delete the
practIce and teachIng of hypnotism from the claSSIficatIon of
"fortunetellIng" and to prOVIde for the lIcensIng of hypnotists
as professionals. In accordance with the CIty CouncIl1s
d2rection on August 4, 1981, the proposed ordInance would permIt
the practIce and teach1ng of hypnotIsm In the City of Santa
MonIca subject only to payment of the same business lIcense fee
prescribed for other comparable profess1ons.
ANALYSIS
SectIons 1 and 2 of the proposed ordinance amend the Santa
Mon1ca MunIcipal Code to delete hypnotIsm from the definItion of
"fortunetelling" contained In SectIon 6204H and from the lIst of
actiVIties subject to the fee prescrIbed by SectIon 6204H2.
Section 3 of the proposed ordInance amends Section 6236 of
the Santa MonIca Code to add to the l1St of "professIons,
vocatIons or callIngs" subject to the busIness license fee
presrIbed by that section, the profeSSIon of "hypnotist or
hypnotheraplst."
