The vapor extraction system will be installed at Santa Monica Municipal Airport. Background In November, 1986, buried fuel tanks were removed from the new Administration Building site at the Santa Monica Airport. The subsurface area tested positive for hydrocarbon contamination. Different methods for hydrocarbon vapor removal were investigated and it was determined that the conditions at the Airport are excellent for an in-situ aeration and vapor extraction system. The vapor extraction system (VES) is a technique which uses an injection/extraction system to withdraw hydrocarbon vapors from the soil. It has been demonstrated to be effective in removing the hydrocarbons in areas above the water table. b--~ - 1 - JAN 2 6 19BB ..........- '.-'" . .
