Aircraft Tie-down Rate and Hangar Rent Increase
Introduction
This report addresses the subject of aircraft tie-down fees and
hangar rentals and recommends increases in both of these rates
at the Santa Monica Municipal Airport.
Background
At the present time, Section #10121 (SMMC) provides for minimum
aircraft tie-down fees as follows:
1. Single engine
2. Multi-engine
3. Daily parking(visitor)
It is proposed that the above minimum
as follows:
1. Single engine
2. Multi-engine
3. Daily parking (NO FREE
a. Single engine: .50
b. Multi-engine: .75
A commensurate increase of 25%

At the present time the City owns and rents eight T-hangars at
the rental rate of $100.00 monthly. One of the above hangars is
occupied by the Police Surveillance airplane.

It is proposed that hangar rentals be increased to $150.00 per
month. This amount is consistent with rentals currently charged
by local fixed base operators (see attachment).
A survey of other airfields in the area (Torrance, Hawthorne,
Long Beach and Van Nuys) indicates that Santa Monica Airport is
within the lower rate category. In view of this, and in the face
of rising costs and spiralling inflation, it is most apparent
that aircraft tie-down rates and hangar rental increases are in
order.

The Airport Commission at its regular meeting November 14~ 1979
formally considered and unanimously recommended City approval of
the proposed fee increases.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council direct the City Attorney
to prepare an ordinance amending Section #10121 (SMMC) providing
for tie-down rate increases in accordance with the proposed
increases.

effective upon the effective date of the amended ordinance.
