TO: Mayor and Council
FROM: Chr~s Reed
SUBJECT: Potential for Increased Revenue at the Airport
I suggest that we request the Alrport Commission to
examlne the posslblllty of charglng a land~ng fee at the
Alrport. The Commlss~on meets May 14 and the C~ty Manager
has advised me that hlS staff will be prepared to present
the approprlate data regardlng landlng fees at other Los
Angeles area general aVlatlon alr90rts to tr.e Commlsslon
for thelr reVlew. I lntend to brlng thls ~atter up at
budget time and I thlnk It would be helpful lf the Commission
has had an opportuDlty to reVlew thlS proposal.
I also thlnk we should ask the Commlssion to glve us
thelr advlce wlth regard to movlng the Saturday/Sunday curfew
hour from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
In additlon, I recommend that we ask the Clty Manager to
review the real property rent rates and the hangar rent rates.
\le should have some lndlcatlon of the viab~llty of present rates
ln today's market so that we can address a posslble rent lncrease
when we dlSCllSS the Alrport budget.
Further, I belleve we should authorlze the Clty Manager
to procure the serVlces of our legal lease speclal~st to review
the present Alrport leases WhlCh have been carrled over to 30
day tenancles. As you know, we dlrected our former Clty Attorney

to do th1S but 1t "fell between the crack" and hasn't been
done.
I don't thlnk we can reasonably ask the C1ty Attorney's
Off1ce to dlvert the1r t1me from other presslng tasks to clean
up the A1rport lease/tenancy agreements. We utlllzed the
serV1ce of a prlvate attorney to negotlate the Lear Slegler
lease and that flrm lS presently asslstlng the C1ty wlth pier
leases. The Clty Manager has advlsed me that this same flrm
could do th1S task for us.
