Recommendation to Adopt d Resolution Authorizing the
City Manager to File an Application and Execute All
Necessary Documents for a Grant of $60,000 from the
California Division of Aeronautics for Primary Runway
Repair and Certifying the Availability of Local
Matching Funds.
IN'r~{ODUCI'ION
This ref>c..rt recommends that the City Council adopt a resolution
certifying the availability of matching funds and authorizing the
City Manager to file an application prior to October 31, 1989, in
ordel to receive a grant of $60,000 from California Aid to
Ai~pocts Program Acquisition and Development Funds. The money
will be used to rehabilitate the Airport runway.
BACKGROUND
The Santa Monica Airport runway is 5000 feet long. Constructed
of concrete, it was built in the 1940's by the United states
Army. It is in good structural condition and requires only joint
and crack sealing and repair of the spa11s to preserve its
structural integrity. Without this preventive maintenance,
hO~0ver, the Airport's most important asset will rapidly degrade,
causing safety concerns.
Thus; in fiscal year 1986-87, the Airport proposed a runway
rehabilitation project for the state Transportation Improvement

Council action is also required for two technical appropriations
which are required to transfer funds fraill the Special Aviat;on
Fund to the Airport Fund: $60,000 at account number 52-700-695-
2390-8910-99170 and ($60,000) at account number 33-700-695-22390-
8910-99170.
RECOMMENDATIONS
staff respectfully recommends that the City council:
1) Approve the attached Resolution which certifies the
availability of local matching funds and authorizes the City
Manager to file an application and execute all necessary grant
documents pursuant to the grant agreement, and
2) Approve creation of the various revenue and expenditure
appropriations set forth above.

CITY OF SANTA MONICA CERTIFYING THE
AVAILABILITY OF MATCHING FUNDS AND
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
APPLY FOR AND EXECUTE DOCUMENTS FOR A
$60,000 GRANT FROM THE STATE
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION DIVISION
OF AERONAUTICS AID TO AIRPORTS
PROGRAM FOR REHABILITATION OF THE RUNWAY
WHEREAS, the California Transportation Commission through
the state Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics,
has awarded Santa Monica Municipal Airport a grant of $60,000 for
rehabilitation of the airport runw~y in the 1989 state
Transportation Improvement Program (STIP); and
WHEREAS, receipt of the grant funding requires certification
of the availability of local matching funds and execution of
various documents related to the grant,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council certifies that it has
appropriated local matching funds of $6,000 for a grant of
$60,000 from the California Aid to Airports Program acquisition
and Development Funds and hereby authorizes the city Manager to
apply for and execute all necessary documents associated with
thi~ grant.
