The project costs were prepared by the City Engineer's Office as :bidicated on the accompanying memorandum. from the City Engineer. ,~ v. L. Tyler~ Airport Director. The City has currently appropriated the sum of $12,194.00 for the installation of taxiway and Obstruction Lighting and $13,000.00 for modification of the City operated aviation gasoline atationt making a total of $25.194.00 available to match C.A.A. 1D&tchins funds. If Federal fund-. are as.igued to the airport for tbeae two projects there would be a saving of $lO~814.24 which in. turn could be used to match C.A.A. funds for the construction of Project Number Four to realign Airport Avenue to Bundy Drive and still save $1.053.36 of the presently budgeted funds for Projects One and Two. The Water Department haa available the sum of $64,000.00 to do the work listed as Project Three. If FedeJ:'al funw. are made available. the City would save the sua of $34.632.83 which would be returned to the Water Department account. Placing the Water Department fund with the AirpoJ:'t funds~ ~~kes a total of $89.194.00, Which would match Federal funda for all six projects lilted on the request forms and still save the City the amount of $13.749.51 of the funda presently budgeted to com- plete hoj ecta One, Two and Three. The C.A.A. Adlainistrator in Washington has the control of 25't of the total of sixty million dollars as a discretionary fund for airport u.provements. Since we do not have scheduled air carrier traffic into Santa Honica, we may not have as high a pri- ority for assignment of these fund8, however, we are told that we are lilted Number Nineteen among the highest volume traffic airports in the nation and we bave just as urgent need for the improvements requested as any other airport. We suggeat that copies of the request to C.A.A. and copies of correspondence relating to thi8 action be forwarded to our Congrelsman requesting that he intercede for our airport and City need. C.A.A. may attempt to delay action, until next fiscal year, on the City's request for Federal Aid since we did not have the request in their hands prior to December 1, 1955 ~ saying tha.t assigned fuuds are already allocated. Tbe discretionary funds are not yet allocated and are intended for situations that we are presently faced with. Every action possible should be taken to obtain these Federal Funds as the citizens of Santa Monica are entitled to this use of funds that they helped supply the govern- maut for the Federa}.
