Introduction
This report recommends that the city Council approve the attached
resolution to establish a parking zone for the physically
handicapped at the requested location.
Background
On May 27, 1980, the City council adopted an ordinance to enable
the establishment of parking zones for the physically
handicapped. Under this ordinance a physically handicapped zone
may be established by resolution of the city Council upon request
by any individual and analysis and recommendation by the city
Parking and Traffic Engineer.
staff has received a request from disabled residents for the
installation of physically handicapped zoneS, one on Arizona
Avenue and the other on 5th Street, both adj acent to the Main
Post Office located at 1248 5th Street. staff has reviewed the
request and finds that the zones meet all the appropriate
requirements.

There is no budget or financial impact resulting from this
request.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the city Council adopt the attached
resolutions establishing physically handicapped zones, one on
Arizona Avenue and the other on 5th Street, both adjacent to the
Main Post Office located at 1248 5th street.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ESTABLISHING A PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED ZONE
ON 5TH STREET ADJACENT TO THE MAIN POST
OFFICE LOCATED AT 1248 5TH STREET
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Monica has
enacted an ordinance enabling individuals to request parking
zones for physically handicapped persons: and
WHEREAS, the City has received a request for a physically
handicapped zone: and
WHEREAS, the Parking and Traffic Engineer has considered
the request and concluded, based upon the factors stated in
Municipal Code Section 3366A, that an additional physically
handicapped zone may be installed at the requested location,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
A physically handicapped zone is hereby
established on the west side of 5th Street approximately 215 feet
north from the north curb on Arizona Avenue (at present metered
parking space #1222).
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be in full force and effect.

WHEREAS, the city has received a request for a physically
handicapped zone: and
WHEREAS, the Parking and Traffic Engineer has considered
the request and concluded, based upon the factors stated in
Municipal Code Section 3366A, that an additional physically
handicapped zone may be installed at the requested location,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

established on the north side of Arizona Avenue immediately west
of 5th street (at present metered parking space *417).
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
