SubJect: Increase of Parklng Permit Fees for the
Parklng Authorlty Structures.
Introductlon
ThlS report recommends the Clty Councll lncrease the parking
permlt fees for the parklng structures.
Background
The existlng parklng structure permlt fees are $30.00 per month
for the asslgned ground floor spaces and $20.00 for the upper level
unassigned "Permit Only" sect~on. The fees were lncreased last year
from $20.00 per month for ground floor and $17.00 for upper level
spaces. Prior to last years lncrease the permit fees have not been
increased in 8 years. There is a 10 percent discount lf an lndivldual
purchases an annual permlt and a 5 percent dlscount for a seml-annual
permit. All annual and seIDl-annual stlckers are sold on a calendar
year basis.
When the Clty Councll dlscussed last years permit parklng fees
many members belleved the proposed permlt fees should be increased
to a hlgher level. A consensus declded to approve the fees on the
condltlon a gradual increase of permlt fees ln future years would
occur.
A recent survey of parklng Faclllties operated by prlvate bUSlnesses
indlcates the average cost for unreserved or less convenlently
parklng spaces is $37.50. A reserved or prime location space has
an average cost of $56.70.

Recornmendat1on
It 1S recommended the C1ty Council adopt the attached resolutlon
increasing the park1ng perrn1t fees for the Parking Structures.

PARKING PERMIT FEES FOR ?l\RKING STRUCTURE.S

THE CITY COUNCfL OF TKE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ~ESOLYE AS fOLLOWS~
SECTION 1. The monthly permit parking fees for Structures 1 through
6 shall be $40.00 per month for ground level spaces and $25.00 per month for
upper level spaces.
SECTION 2. Parklng ?ermlt fees for indlvlduals working out of tne
parking structure tax assessment district shall be $45.00 per month for ground
level and $30.00 per month for upper levels.
SECTION 3. The effective date of the Parklng Permit fees shall be
January 1, 1982.
SECTION 4. 7he Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolutlon
and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
