SUBJECT: Establ1shment of Parking Zones for the Physically Hand1capped
Introduction
This report recommends to Clty Councll approval of the attached resolution to
establish Parking Zones for the Phys1cally Handicapped at var10US requested
1 oca ti ons .
Background
On May 27, 1980 (Item 6C) the City Council adopted an ordinance to enable the
establishment of Parking Zones for the Physically Handlcapped. Under this
ordinance a Physically Handicapped Zone may be established by Resolution of
the City Councll upon request by any individual and consideration by the Park-
ing and Traffic Engineer.
Staff has rece1ved a request from Santa Monica Hospital for Physically Hand1-
capped Zones adjacent to the hospital. The first zone requested is on the
east side of 15th Street adjacent to the hospital's main entrance. A zone
at this location will require removal of one metered space. The second re-
quested Zone 1S located on the west slde of 16th Street adJacent to their 16th
Street entrance. This will also require removal of one metered parking space.
Staff concurs with the need for the requested zones.
Recommendation
It 1S recommended the C1ty Council adopt the attached resolution establish1ng
Phys1cally Hand1capped Zones.

'A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA ESTABLISHING TWO PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED ZONES ON:
(1) THE EAST SIDE OF 15TH STREET ADJACENT TO SANTA MONICA
HOSPITAL AND (2) THE WEST SIDE OF 16TH STREET ADJACENT
TO SANTA MONICA HOSPITAL.
~HEREAS, The City Counc1l of the City of Santa Monica has enacted
an ordinance enabling indiv1duals to request parking zones for phys1cally handi-
capped persons; and
WHEREAS, Staff is in receipt of requests for two physically handi-
capped zones;.and
WHEREAS, the Parking and Traffic Engineer has considered the re-
quests and concluded, based upon the factors stated in the ordinance, that
phYSically handicapped zones may be installed in the two requested locations;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. A physically handicapped zone 1S hereby established
on the east side of 15th Street adjacent to Santa Monlca Hospital.
SECTION 2. A physically handlcapped zone is hereby estab11shed
on the west side of 16th Street adjacent to Santa Monlca Hospital.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoptlon of this
resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and
effect.
