SUBJECT: Establishment of Parklng Zones for the Physically Handlcapped
Introduction
ThlS report recommends to Clty Council approval of the attached resolution to
establlsh Parklng Zones for the Physically Handicapped at various requested
locations.
Background
On May 27, 1980 (Item 6C) the City Council adopted an ordinance to enable the
establlshment of Parking Zones for the Physically Handicapped. Under th1S
ordinance a Phys1cally Handlcapped Zone may be established by Resolutlon of
the C1ty Council upon request by any individual and consideration by the Park-
lng and Traffic Engineer.
Staff has received two requests for Physically Handicapped Zones. The f1rst
zone requested is on Ocean Avenue north of Alta Avenue. A zone at this loca-
tion would not requ1re removal of any metered spaces. The Zone would be ad-
jacent to a paved area on the west slde of Ocean Avenue. The second requested
Zone 1S located at 234 San Vicente Boulevard on the south side of the street
adjacent to an apartment building. The request has recelved written approval
from all resldents 1n the apartment complex.
Recommendation
It is recommended the City Councll adopt the attached resolution establishing
Phys1cally Handicapped Zones.

(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA ESTABLISHING TWO PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED
ZONES ON: (1) THE WEST SIDE OF OCEAN AVENUE NORTH OF
ALTA AVENUE AND (2) ADJACENT TO 234 SAN VICENTE BLVD.

WHEREAS~ the City Council of the Clty of Santa Monica has enacted
an ordinance enabling individuals to request parki~g zones for physically
handicapped persons; and
WHEREAS, Staff is in receipt of requests for two physically
handicapped zones; and
WHEREAS, the Parking and Traffic Engineer has considered the
requests and concluded, based upon the factors stated ln the ordinance, that

physlcally handicapped zones may be lnstalled at the two requested locations;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA

DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: i

SECTION 1. A physically handicapped zone is hereby establlshed
on the west side of Ocean Avenue north of Alta Avenue.
SECTION 2. A physically handicapped zone is hereby established
adjacent to 234 San Vicente Boulevard.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolutlon and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force
and effect.
