Introduction
The Clty Councll set a Public Hearlng for the assessment of costs
to repair damaged sidewalks, driveways and curbs at varlOUS areas
wlthln the Clty. It is recommended the Council adopt the attached
Resolution conflrming the assessment of costs.
Eackground
On K'ovel'1ber II, 1980, the Clty Council set a publlC hearing for
December 9, 1980, on the asseSSMent of costs to repair daMaged
Slcewalks, drlveways and curbs within the Clty of Santa Monica.
Individual letters statincr the cost of this l~provement were
mailed to each property owner on November 26, 1980. Attached is
Resolutlon No. 6129 (CCS) setting the date of the Pub11C Hearing
(Item 6-N),
Recommendation
It is recommended the City Councll:
l- Open the Public Hearing;
2. Close the Public Hearlng and overrule any protests; and
3. Adopt the Resolution confirming the assessments.

'TO CITY COUNCIL
REPAIR OF Dfu~AGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, CURBS,
AND/OR REMOVAL OF OBSTRUCTIONS, PERFORMED
UNDER PROVISIOlXS OF DIVISION 7, CHAPTER 22,
SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND
HIGHWAYS CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
(SR-80-10)
Pursuant to the provisions of Division 7, Chapter 22,
Sect~ons 5600 to 5630, of the Streets and Hl.ghways Code of the
State of Cal~ fornl.a, the following work was caused to bE' done by
the Street Superintendent:
The renoval and replacement of 1, 145 square feet of PCC
concrete on sidewalks; and
The removal of 113 square feet of PCC concrete.
The total cost of the work was $3,604.50, based on the fOllowing
charges:
Removal and replacement of:
PCC s~dewalk $3 .OO/sq. ft.
PCC driveway $4,OO/sq.ft.
Type A Curb .$10.00/1- ft,
Removal only $1. 50/sq. ft.
The total proposed assessment ~s S1,802.25, or 50 percent of the
total cost. The other 50 percent of the cost is being paid by the
City.
Reference is made to the attached sheets for a
description of the real property in front of whl.ch the work has
been done, the proposed assessr.ent agal.nst each property, and a
descrl.ption of the work done in front of each property.

Dear Property Owner:
ThlS letter is notification that the Clty CounCll, on the 9th
day of December, 1980, at 7:30 p.I'l, ln the Councll ChaMbers
ln the Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main Street, will act on
a report by the Street Superlntendent of the cost of the
removal and replacement of sldewalk as required by Divislon
7, Chapter 22, Sections 5600 and 5630 lnclusive, of the
Streets and Hlghways Code of the State of Callfornia.
The total cost of the work that was done at the above
locatlon is $ 567. 00.
Your cost is $283.50, which is one half the total cost and
will be assessed against your property after confirroation of
the Street Superintendent's report.
The above assessment is due and payable no later than January
8, 1980.
If the asseSSJ11.ent is not pald by that date, the City has the
rlght to file a lien against the property.
The City wlll provide asslstance for low-to-moderate income

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF Sh~TA MONICA CONFIRMING THE REPORT OF THE
SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS REGARDING REPAIRS TO
DN-1AGED SIDENALKS, DRIVEWAYS AND CURBS
(SR-80-l0)
l'lHEREAS, the Street Superintendent of the City of Santa
Monica, pursuant to Sect:Lon 5600 to 5630 of the Streets and
Highways Code, commenced proceedings to cause the repair of
dall'aged sidewalks. driveways and curbs in the Ci ty of Santa
Monica, and
WHEREAS, sixty days after said order was served, the
work had not been completed by the owners or persons in possession
of the affected properties, and the Superintendent of Streets
caused the work to be done; and
HHEREAS , the Superintendent of Streets did file with the
City Council of the City of Santa ~onica his report of such work,
and a hearing thereon was called by Resolutlon No. 6129 ( CCS ) : and
\-VHEREAS, the City Council conducted a noticed hearing to
consider any protests or objections to the Report of Work;
NOVl, THEREFORE. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1- That the Report of lvork of the
Superintendent of Streets heretofore filed and above-described, be
and the same is he~eby confirmed.
SECTION 2. That all of said protests and objections of
every k~nd and nature to the repairs or to the assessments and all
appeals therefroM to said City Council be and the same hereby are
overruled and denied.

SECTION 3. That the cost of the repairs, as. set fot"th
in said Report, shall be assessed against the properties described
therein. which properties front upon the.. improvement so
constructed.
SECTION 4. That if such assessment is not paid within
the time permitted by la~", the saMe shall constitute a special
assessment and lien against the properties ther~in described, in
the amount set forth in said Report, wh ich lien shall continue
until the assessment and all interest thereon is paid.
SECTION 5. That if the assessment is not paid within
the time pe~itted, the City Clerk shall deliver a Notice of Lien.
signed by the Superintendent of Streets, as provided in section
5626 of the Streets and Highways Code or the State of California,
to the County Assessor and Tax Collector, who, in accordance with
applicable la~", shall collect said assessment, together with all
other taxes relating to such property.
SECTION 6. That the Clty Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution.
