Introduct1on
ThlS report reco~ends that the C1ty Council approve the attached Resolution
of Intention for planting trees on Santa Monica Boulevard from 20th Street
to 23rd Street.
Background
The City Councll, at the1r meetlng on January 23, 1979, authorized the Clty
staff to proceed on a tree plant1ng progra~ on Santa Monlca Blvd. in several
separate assessment d1str1cts 1n accordance with Chapter 27 of the Improvement
Act of 1911. The port1on of Santa Monica Blvd. from 20th Street to 23rd Street
is the sixth of the dlstrlcts. Planting in the sections between 17th Street
and 20th Street 1S now complete.
The Clty will do the planting and partlclpate in the cost with Gas Tax Funds.
The estimated assessment cost to the abutting property owners is $1.75 per
front foot.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adoot the attached Resolution of
Intentlon which sets a publlC hearlng for March 25, 1980.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DECLARING ITS INTENTION TO PLANT
TREES ALONG SANTA MONICA BOULEVARD BETWEEN 20TH f
STREET AND 23RD STREET WITHIN THE CITY OF SANTA f
MONICA
WHEREAS, the Clty Council of the City of Santa Monica is
empowered by Section 5870, et seq., of the Streets and Hlghways Code of
the State of California to plant trees at varlOUS locations within the
Clty of Santa Monica;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOllOWS:
SECTION 1. That the pub1ic interest requlres and lt is the
lntention of the Clty Council of the City of Santa Monlca to order the
following work to be done, to wit: The plantlng of trees along Santa
Monica Boulevard from 20th Street to 23rd S~reet all in the City of Santa
Monlca. The assessment cost of the improvement is $1.75 per front foot
to the abutting property owners and the balance of the cost 15 to be
borne by the Clty.
SECTION 2. That said proposed work or improvement, In the
opinlon of the Clty Council of the Clty of Santa Mon1ca, 15 of more than
local or ordinary public benefit, and said Council hereby proposes that
the dlstrlct in the City of Santa Monlca to beneflted by said work or
lmprovement and to be assessed to pay the cost and expense thereof includes
all of the property abutting Santa Monlca Boulevard between 20th Street
and 23rd Street.
SECTION 3. Notice hereby is given pursuant to said Section

5870 et seq. that on March 25~ 1980~ at the hour of 7:30 p.m. in the
Counc1l Chambers of the City Hall of sa1d City of Santa Monica, s1tuated
at 1685 Maln Street 1n sald City, any and all persons havlng any objec-
tions to the proposed work or improvement may appear before the City
Councll and show cause why the said proposed work or improvement should
not be carried out 1n accordance wlth sald Resolution of Intention.
SECTION 4. The Superlntendent of Streets immed1ately shall
cause to be consplcuously posted along the line of sald contemplated
improvement not1ce of the passage of th1s Resolution of Intention 1n
the manner and form prescribed by law.
The City Clerk hereby 1S directed to mall notlces~ in the
manner and form prescrlbed by law, of the adoption of thlS resolution
to all persons ownlng real property in the herelnbefore descrlbed assess-
ment d1strict, whose names and addresses appear on the last equa11zed
assess~ent roll for Clty taxes or as known to the Clty Clerk.
SECn ON 5. The City Clerk shall certlfy to the adoptlon
of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
