SUBJECT: Recommendation regarding funding of Traffic Signal on Pico
Boulevard between 18th Street and 19th Street
Introduction
This report recommends that 1980-81 contingency COBG funds be used to fund
one-half of the cost of the proposed traffic signal on Pico Boulevard
between 18th and 19th Streets.
Background
During the June 16, 1981 Council meeting, the Council lndicated that it was
thelr desire to fund the above signal from Community Development Block Grant
funds. This project can be funded from last year's contlngency funds. In
additlon, the Pico Neighborhood Association has requested Staff to relocate
the bus stop from its existing location adjacent to the Mount Hyman Church
to a point 100 feet westerly. The Church believes the increase of vandalism
and graffiti on their building is directly attributed to the bus stop. Staff
will facilltate the relocation of the bus stop wlth the proposed pedestrian
traffic signal.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council approve the funding of one-half of
the cost of a traffic signal on Pico Boulevard between 18th and 19th Streets
and appropriate $10,000 from the 1980-81 Community Development Block Grant
contingency funds.
