It is recommended that Council adopt the attached Resolution confirming the assessment of costs. Background On August 25, 1981, the City Council set a public hearing for September 22, 1981, on the assessment of costs to repair damaged sidewalks, driveways and curbs within the City of Santa Monica. Indivldual letters stating the cost of this improvement were mailed to each property owner on September 4, 1981. Recommendation It is recommended the City Council: 1. Open the Public Hearing; 2. Close the Public Hearing and overrule any protests; and 3. Adopt the Resolution confirming the assessments. STREET SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS. CURBS. AND/OR REMOVAL OF OBSTRUCTIONS. PERFORMED UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7, CHAPTER 22. SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630. OF THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA (SR-80-19l Pursuant to the provisions of Division 7, Chapter 22, Sections 5600 to 5630, of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California, the following work was caused to be done by the Street Superintendent: The removal and replacement of 634.5 square feet of PC concrete on sidewalks; The removal and replacement of 3.4 lineal feet of PC concrete curbing. The to tal cost of the work was $1.903.50. based on the following charges: Removal and replacement of: pee sidewalk . $3.00/sq.ft. pec curb. . .$10.00/sq.ft. The total proposed assessment for sidewalks damaged by tree roots is $951.75 or 50 percent of the total cost. The other 50 percent of the cost is being pald by the City. Seventy-two square feet of pce sidewalk was replaced du e to non-tree related damage. This repair is assessed at 100% of the cost or $216.00. The cost was based on $3.00 per square foot for remova 1 and replacement of the PCC sidewalk. ----------~--- --------- . .
