Introduction
The City Council set a Public Hearing for the assessment of costs
to repair damaged sidewalks, driveways and curbs at various areas
within the Ci ty. It is recommended that Council adopt the
attached Resolution confirming the assessment of costs.
B.ackground
On September 22, 1981, the City Counc il set a public hearing for
October 27, 1981, on the assessment of costs to repair damaged
sidewalks, driveways and curbs within the City of Santa Monica.
Individual letters stating the cost of this improvement were
mailed to each property owner on October 9, 1981-
Recommendation
It is recommended the City Counci 1 :
1. Open the Public Hearing;
2. Close the Public Hearing and overrule any protests; and
3. Adopt the Resolution confirming the assessments.

TO CITY COUNCIL
REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, CURBS,
AND/OR REMOVAL OF OBSTRUCT! ONS, PERFORMED
UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7, CHAPTER 22,
SECT! ONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND
HIGHWAYS CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
(SR-80-20)
Pursuant to the provisions of Division 7, Chapter 22,
Sections 5600 to 5630, of the Streets and Highways Code of the
State of California, the following work was caused to be done by
the Street Superintendent:
The removal and replacement of
743 square feet of PC concrete
on sidewalks;
The removal and replacement of
274 square feet of PC concrete
in the driveway area;
The removal and replacement of
57 1 ineal feet of PC concrete
curbing.
The total cost of the work was $3,085.00, based on the following
charges:
Removal and replacement of:
pce sidewalk . . . $3.00/sq.ft.
pce driveway . . $4.00/sq.ft.
pce curb . . .$lO.OO/sq.ft.
The total proDosed assessment for sidewalks damaged by tree roots
is $1,947.50 or 50 percent of the total cost. The other 50
percent of the cost is being paid by the City.
One hundred thirty square feet of PCC sldewalk was replaced due to
non-tree related damage. This repair is assessed at 100% of the

cost or $650.00. The cost was based on the new assessment charges
of $5.00 per square foot for removal and replacement of the pec
sidewalk in the dri veway area.
One thousand four hundred and seventy one square feet of PCC
sidewalk was replaced due to tree related damage. This repalr is
assessed at 50% of the cost or S2,942.00. The cost was based on
the new assessment charges of $4.00 per square foot for removal
and replacement of the PCC sidewalk.
Reference is made to the attached sheets for a
description of the real property in front of which the work has
been done, the proposed assessment against each property, and a
description of the work done in front of each property.
