council Meeting, October 25, 1988 Santa Monica, California
To: Mayor and city council
From: City Staff
Subject: Recommendation to Direct the City Attorney to Draft
an Ordinance Authorizing the City Parking and
Traffic Engineer to Implement Changes to the City's
Designated Truck Routes in Conjunction with Ordinance
-#709.
Introduction
This report requests that the city council direct the city
Attorney to draft an ordinance to authorize the city Parking and
Traffic Engineer to implement changes to the city's designated
truck routes in conjunction with the existing truck route
ordinance (ordinance #709).
Background
On September 13, 1988, the City Council directed staff to review
the city's designated truck routes and to recommend appropriate
changes. The designated truck routes were orignally adopted, by
ordinance, in April of 1966. There have been no changes to the
routes since that time. Recently, Council and staff have received
requests to delete certain streets from the designated routes.
Staff's preliminary review of the designated truck routes
indicates some changes may be appropriate. However, a complete
evaluation based on theoretical information will require
substantially more time before staff can return to the council
with its final recommendations. The present ordinance is written
in such a manner that the City Council must amend the ordinance
