SUBJECT: Modification of Ocean Avenue at Montana Avenue
Introduction
This report recommends City Councll approve modifications to Ocean Avenue
which will reduce the width of the street, but 1ncrease the wldth of
Pal1sades Park near Montana Avenue.
Background
Palisades Park at Montana Avenue has eroded over the past 100 years to the
extent that the width of the flat portion of the park at this location is
less than five feet. At this same location, Ocean Avenue has a transition
in width of approximately 24 feet, that is, Ocean Avenue 1S 24 feet wider
south of Montana than it is north of Montana.
The staff recommends the street transition be extended approximately 100
feet south, making Palisades Park approximately 24 feet w1der at Montana
Avenue. The design will facil1tate existing drainage. The existlng RTD
bus stop will be moved just north of the intersection of Montana and Ocean
Avenues. No parking spaces along Ocean Avenue will be deleted.
Recommendation
It 1S requested that City Council approve the modification of Ocean Avenue
descr1bed above and as shown on the attached plan, and appropr1ate $20,000
from unappropriated general funds for this construction.
