Background Each year the County approprlates certain Gas Tax funds to Santa Monica for the purpose of improvlng and maintawing our "Select System" of streets. Included 1n the 1979-80 City budget is an amount of $130,000 which was esti- mated to be our allocation. The County has subsequently not1fied us that the actual amount is $138,717. It 1S the staff's lntention to utilize all of these funds for repalring and resurfacing the following arterial streets: l. 2. 3. 4. 5. Colorado Ave. between Ocean Ave. and Centinela Ave. Since the above list of streets involves much more work than can be completed with these available funds, only those streets or portions thereof which are in the worst condition will be repaired or resurfaced. Council will have opprotunity to review the included streets when the project is recommended for award of contract. Recommendation It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached resolution requesting allocation and payment of County aid for maintenance of select system streets. Prepared by: Stan Scholl Doug McAteer DM:gw Attachment: Resolution e e ~ RESOLUTION NO. 5357 (ees) (CITY COUNCIL SERIES) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA REQUESTING AN ALLOCATION AND PAYMENT OF COUNTY AID TO CITIES FUNDS FOR THE MAINTENANCE OF SELECT SYSTEM STREETS (C-88) WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles has appropriated certain monies to the City of Santa Monica as County Aid to Cities; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to expend the amount of $138,717 of said funds accrued to the City for the maintenance of streets on the City's approved Select System. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOllOWS: SECTION 1. The County of Los Angeles is hereby requested to allocate $126,227 of the Aid to Cities (A.T.C.) plus $12,490 of Federal Aid Transportation (F.A.T.) funds apportioned to the Clty for the maintenance of those streets on the currently approved Select System of Streets (excluding State Highways), on flle with the Department of Transportation, State of California, and lncorporated herein by reference. SECTION 2. After the allocatlon is approved by the Board of SuperVlsors and funds are available, the County is requested to send such allocated amount to the City. The Clty will begin using the funds for the street maintenance according to the terms of the allocation. SECTION 3. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect. -1- . e e SECTION 4.
