SUBJECT: Request for County PartIcIpatIon In Street Improvements
IntroductIon
CIty staff has been workIng for the past month wIth County staff
to determIne Improvements to CIty streets and traffic sIgnals
which would be of Interest to both the CIty and the County for
Joint fundIng, The County has IndIcated that they would be will-
lng to provIde $500.000 of FAU (Federal AId Urban) funds on a 50%
CltY/50% County baSIS In 1985-86,
This IS a unIque opportunity
to obtaIn addItional funds for Improvement of maJor streets and
slgnals,
The County IS only Interested In fundIng street Improvements
WhICh provIde for regIonal traffIC needs, The CIty has a ratIng
system WhICh uses amount of traffIC and number of defIciencIes to
prioritize needs.
The proJects presented below are conSIstent
with the priorities presented In the February 1984 "Capital 1n-
frastructure Needs Assessment~ as well as the the proposed 1985-
88 Capital Improvements Program,
The following improvements are recommended to be funded on a 50%
Clty/50% County baSIS using Federal AId Urban Funds:
1. TraffIc Signal upgrades on Colorado,
PIca and OlympIc Boulevards,

If successful, this proposal will result In $500,000 addltional
Federal Aid Urban funds (the County share) belng made avaIlable
durlng flscal year 1985-86 for Improvements 1n the City. The
Clty antlclpates havlng the necessary FAU and gas tax fundIng
allocatIon available to match the County contrIbutIon for these
fiscal year 1985-86 proJects.
If the City IS successful in
receIving these County FAU funds, necessary appropriation wlll be
Included In the CIty'S 1985-86 budget.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the Mayor to
send the attached letter of request for joint fundlng to Supervi-
sor Dana.

In the past year your offlce has made avallable to our Clty certam County allocatlOns.
We would lIke to thank you for thIs assIstance which was made avallable to us for the
com pletlOn of our W JJshlre Boulevard reconstructIOn project last year.
Currently, Santa MonKa has several addltlOnal F AU eligIble projects whIch could be
completed wlth assIstance from the County. These projects are listed below. If you
car. make funds avallable, we propose constructing the projects on a 50% Clty/50% County
funded baS1S. The projects are as follows:
