Background The Federal-Ald Urban flnancing program 1S for major new construction (not maintenance) and provldes $3.5 ml1l1on to Santa Monlca over a 6-year perlod. This year 1S the 5th year of the program. The Clty has allocated $1.8 million of these funds prevlously for the 4th/5th Street freeway o~f-ramp and has prevlously submitted lntentlons to spend the remainder of the funds for reconstructing portions of Wi1shlre Boulevard. The local Jurisdictlon must pay 17% of each proJect from local funds (gas tax, general funds, assessments, community development funds. etc.) Durlng the budget study sessions. a proposal was made to modlfy the FAU program to include several traffic slgnals WhlCh were unfunded but needed by the community.
