SUBJECT: Authorlze Changes in FAU Street Program
Introduction
This report requests Councll to authorize Staff to submit changes In
the Federal-Aid Urban Street Program to include six traffic signals.
Background
The Federal-Ald Urban flnancing program 1S for major new construction
(not maintenance) and provldes $3.5 ml1l1on to Santa Monlca over a
6-year perlod. This year 1S the 5th year of the program. The Clty has
allocated $1.8 million of these funds prevlously for the 4th/5th Street
freeway o~f-ramp and has prevlously submitted lntentlons to spend the
remainder of the funds for reconstructing portions of Wi1shlre Boulevard.
The local Jurisdictlon must pay 17% of each proJect from local funds
(gas tax, general funds, assessments, community development funds. etc.)
Durlng the budget study sessions. a proposal was made to modlfy the FAU
program to include several traffic slgnals WhlCh were unfunded but needed
by the community.
Recommendatlon
Staff recommends the Transportatlon Commiss1on be notified that the C1ty'S
program be modified to reduce the Wilshlre Boulevard reconstruction by
$300.000 and to include traffic slgnals at:
Co1orado/Ocean Avenue
Ocean/Highway 173 (Particlpation by Rand)
Ocean Park/21st
Ocean Park/25th
Arlzona/26th

years from now.
