INTRODUCTION
This report recommends Clty Council adopt Ocean Park Boulevard
between Cloverfleld Boulevard and Cent1nela Avenue as part of the
Federal-Ald Urban System.
BACKGROUND
The Clty of Santa Monlca has establlshed a Federal-Aid Urban
System conslst1ng of collector and arterial streets with1n the
Clty. The streets deslgnated ln the Federal-Ald Urban System are
eligible for Federal Funds.
Ocean Park Boulevard between Barnard Way and Cloverf1eld 1S on
the Federal-A1d Urban System. The Clty Council has approved the
1nstallatlon of trafflC slgnals on Ocean Park Boulevard at 21st
and 25th Streets. The trafflC slgnals are to be bUllt wlth
Federal-Ald Urban (FAU) funds. Presently, the lntersectlon of
Ocean Park Boulevard and 21st Street lS ellglble for FAU funds.
Staff proposes Ocean Park Boulevard between Cloverfleld Boulevard
and Cent1nela Avenue be added to the FAU system. ThlS wlll
enable the lntersectlon of Ocean Park Boulevard and 25th Street
to be ellgible for FAU funds. It should be noted that street
segments can only be added to the FAU system 1f they Join
existing streets designated on the FAU system.

The proposed addltion wll1 JOln existlng deslgnated streets west
of Cloverfleld Boulevard and east of Centlnela Avenue.
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
Adoptlon of Ocean Park Boulevard lnto the FAU system w11l allow
FAU funds 1n the amount of approxlmately $65,000 to be spent for
the 1mprovements. If the route lS not 1ncluded 1n the FAU system,
the Clty will be required to appropr1ate City funds 1n the same
amount or to delete the proJect.
The two slgnal projects are currently budgeted assumlng that FAU
funds will be used. The traffic slgnal was orglnally requested by
area res1dents. The slgnal will improve pedestrlan and motor
vehicle safety crossing Ocean Park Boulevard.
RECOMMENDATION
It lS recommended City Council adopt the attached Resolution
addlng Ocean Park Boulevard between Cloverfleld Boulevard and
Cent1nela Avenue to the Federal-Ald Urban System.

CITY OF SANTA MONICA DESIGNATING CERTAIN
ROADS TO BE IN THE FEDERAL-AID URBAN SYSTEM
WHEREAS, under regulatlons lssued by the Secretary of Transportatlon
under the Federal-AId Highway Act (Tltle 23 U.S. Code), the Clty of Santa
Monica wlth concurrence of the Callfornia Department of Transportation, has
been deslgnated to select a Federal-Ald Urban System In this City,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOllOWS:
SECTION 1. The Clty Councll concurs 1n and approves the add1tlon
of Ocean Park Boulevard Jetween Cloverfield Boulevard and Cent1nela Avenue to
the Federal-Aid ~r\a~ SysteM el Iglble for Federal-Ald 1n the C1ty o~ Santa
Monica, State of Californla, subject to the concurrence of the Callfcrnia
Department of Transportation and approval of the Federal Hlghway Adm1nistratlon.
SECTION 2.
The Clty Clerk shall certlfy to the adoptlon of thlS
Resolutlon, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be In full force
and effect.
