Santa Monica, California
TO: Mayor and city council
FROM: city staff
SUBJECT: Recommendation to Adopt Resolution Accepting Assignment
of county of Los Angeles Federal-Aid Urban Funds in the
Amount of $140,000
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends that the city council adopt the attached
resolution accepting assignment of the County of Los Angeles,
Department of Public Works, Federal-Aid Urban funds in the amount
of $140,000 for the street improvements on Colorado Avenue from
14th street to 20th street.
BACKGROUND
on April 23, 1985, the City received a letter from the county of
Los Angeles which stated that they would provide up to $500,000 in
Federal-Aid Urban (FAU) funds for street improvement projects on
Colorado Avenue and pico Boulevard and various traffic signal
upgrades as requested by the city Council. On April 26, 1988, the
city council awarded a contract to Sully Miller Contracting Company
for street improvements to Colorado Avenue between 14th Street and
20th street.
Staff has initiated steps to have the funds transferred from the
county's FAU account to the City's account for the Colorado Avenue
street improvements project. On October 25, 1988, staff received
a letter from the County which indicated that the Board of

e
supervisors, on October 11, 1988, authorized the assignment of FAU
funds to the city of Santa Monica. Staff is now required to send
a copy of a resolution to the County which states that the city
Council of Santa Monica accepts the assignment of $140,000 in
County FAU funds, The remaining $360,000, which will be used on
Council approved projects for street improvements on pico Boulevard
($60,000) and traffic signal upgrades ($300,000), will be requested
as each project is advertised for bid in 1989.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT
The construction budget for the Colorado Avenue street improvements
project was previously approved by the City Council in the amount
of $774,008.
This project budget includes the $140,000 to be
assigned by Los Angeles County. The Council action recommended in
this staff report does not, therefore, result in an increase in the
expenditure budget for this project. No actual transfer of funds
to the City will occur.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the attached
resolution accepting the assignment of County of Los Angeles,
Department of Public Works, Federal-Aid Urban funds in the amount
of $140,000 to be used for street improvements on Colorado Avenue
between 14th street and 20th Street.
