Subject: Approve Traffic Improvements at the Intersection of
Santa Monica Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard
INTRODUCTION
This report recommends that a left turn pocket be installed on Lincoln Blvd.
on the south side of Santa Monica Blvd., and that eight parking spaces be
removed from Lincoln Blvd. to facilitate this improvement.
BACKGROUND
Lincoln Boulevard carries 21,000 vehicles per day, the most traffic of any
street in Santa Monica. It also has the most congestion. A left turn
pocket exists at the north side of Santa Monica Boulevard on Lincoln, and
one is badly needed on the south side, Eight on-street parking spaces wlll
necessarily be removed by the installation of the left turn pocket. Twenty-
eight on-street parking spaces will remain to serve the publlC. In addition.
there are more than 100 off-street parking spaces available in the immediate
area (within 100 feet). The benefits derived for the community at large
would be substantial since such an installation would result in less energy
use and would result in lower pollution levels.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Staff be authorized to extablish a left turn
pocket northbound on Lincoln at Santa Monica Blvd. and to remove eight
