SR-506-003-01 (22) _ ., ~....r ...,/ - - 5tJ~-003-o / Santa Monlca. California, April 3, Ig78 TO: FROM: Mayor and City Council , I {5 APR 2 5 1978 City Staff SUBJECT: Authorlzation of Street Improvements on Colorado Avenue from Seventh Street to Lincoln Boulevard INTRODUCTION This report recommends that the Staff be authorized to proceed with wldening Colorado Avenue on the south side from Seventh Street to approximately 300 feet east of Lincoln Blvd. and that savings in gas tax from the Stewart St. project be transferred for this project. BACKGROUND Colorado Avenue west of Seventh Street is 60 feet in width from curb to curb. Between Seventh St. and Lincoln Blvd., Colorado Avenue is 55 feet in width, thus creating an obstacle to westbound traffic. In addition to the obstacle mentloned above, this improvement wlll help to solve what the Staff considers to be one of the most severe traffic congestion problems in the City. The improvement also will provlde better egress from the Central BUSlness Distrlct and will complement the recently approved one- way street system as a means of expediting the flow of downtown trafflc. The recommended improvements will provide for two through lanes and a left turn lane for eastbound traffic and increase the capacity eastbound by 40%. The net loss in parking will be only two spaces. New curb radii are to be bUllt on all four corners to allow safer right turning movements for large trucks. ItB APR 2 5 "19'm ! , .- e e To: Mayor and City Council -2- April 3, 1978 The estimated cost of this improvement is $85,000. RECOHMfNDATION It is recommended that Staff be authorized to proceed with the above-mentioned project and that $85,000 in unapproprlated Gas Tax Funds in Account No. 43-939-000 be appropriated for this purpose.
