3347A to EstablIsh 30 MIles Per Hour Speed

At Its meetIng on December 11, 1984, the CIty CouncIl
dIrected the CIty Attorney to prepare an ordInance amendIng
MunIcIpal Code SectIon 3347Jl. to establIsh the speed lImIt on
MaIn Street south of Ocean Park Boulevard at 30 mIles per
hour. In response to thIS dIrectIon. the accompanYIng
ordInance has been prepared and IS presented for CIty CouncIl
conSIderation.
Pursuant to VehIcle Code SectIon 22357, the CIty 0 f
Santa MonIca may set a speed lImIt greater than 25 mIles per
hour for local streets upon the baSIS of engIneerIng and
traffIC surveys. MunIcIpal Code SectIon 3347A contaIns the
VarIOUS local speeds adopted pursuant to thIS authorIty.
CurrentlYt pursuant to MunIcIpal Code SectIon 3347Pd3)(J), the
speed lImIt on MaIn Street from the south CIty lImIts to
Colorado Avenue IS set at 35 mIles per hour.
The accompanYIng ordinance amends MunIcIpal Code SectIon
3347A In two respects to accomplIsh the CIty CouncIl's

CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING MUNICIPAL
CODE SECTION 3347A TO ESTABLISH A THIRTY
MILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ON MAIN
STREET FROM THE SOUTH CITY LIMITS TO
OCEAN PARK BOULEVARD
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS.
SECTION 1 . SectIon 3347A of the Santa MonIca MunICIpal
Code IS amended to read as follows:

SECTION 2. Any provIsIon of the Santa Mon1ca MunIcIpal
Code or appendIces thereto 1ncons1stent wIth the prov1sIons of
thlS ordlnance. to the extent of such Incons1stenc1es and no
further, are hereby repealed or mod1fled to that extent
necessary to affect the provIs1ons of th1S ord1nance
SECTION 3. If any sectlon, subsectlon, sentence,
clause, or phrase of th1S ordlnance 1S for any reason held to
be Invalld or unconstItutIonal by a decIslon of any court of
any competent Jurlsdlctlon, such decIsIon shall not affect the
valldlty of the remaInIng portlons of the ordinance. The City
CouncIl hereby declares that It would have passed thIs
ordlnance and each and every section, subsection, sentence,
clause Or phrase not declared 1nvalId or unconstItutIonal
W1 thou t regard to whether any portlon of the ordInance would
be subsequently declared InvalId or unconstItut1onal.

SECTION Mayor shall the Clty Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The Clty Clerk
shall cause the same to be pub11shed once 1n the offlC1al
newspaper wlthin 15 days after 1ts adoptlon. The ordinance
shall become effectlve after 30 days from 1tS adoptlon.
