SUBJECT: Ordinance Amending Municipal Code Section
3347A to Establish 30 Miles Per Hour Speed
Limit on Hain Street South of Ocean Park
Boulevard
At its meeting on January B, 1985, the City CounCil
introduced for first reading an ordinance amending MuniCipal
Code Section 3347a to establish a 30 miles per hour speed
limIt on Main Street south of Ocean Park Boulevard. The
ordinance is now presented to the CIty CounCil for adoption.
RE;COMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying
ordinance be adopted.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING MUNICIPAL
CODE SECTION 3347A TO ESTABLISH A THIRTY
HILES PER HOUR SPEED LIMIT ON MAIN
STREET FROM THE SOUTH CITY LIMITS TO
OCEAN PARK BOULEVARD
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1- Sectlon 3347A of the Santa Monlca Mun1cipal
Code is amended to read as follows:
SECTION 3347A. Increasina State
Speed Lim~ts 1n Certain Zones. It is
hereby determloed that upon the basis
of engineering and traffic surveys
that the speed perm1tted by State law
upon the following streets, or
portions thereof, is less than is
necessary for safe operation of
vehicles thereon by reason of the
preva1ling speeds as determ1ned by
traffic eng1neering measurements
thereupon, accidents records, and
highway traffic and roads1de

conditIons, and it is hereby declared
that the prima facle speed limlt, as
lndicated by and pursuant to sald
engineerlng and traffic surveys made
pursuant to Section 627 of the
California Vehicle Code, shall be as
herelnafter set forth on those streets
or portions of streets herein
designated at the tlmes speclfled when
slgns are erected givlng notice
thereof:
(1) 45 miles per hour:
a. Olymplc Boulevard from
26th Street to Centinela Avenue (north
leg) .
( 2 ) 40 miles per hour:

SECTION 2. Any prOVISIon of the Santa MonIca Municipal
Code or appendices thereto Inconsistent with the provisions of
this ordinance, to the extent of such Inconsistencies and no
further, are hereby repealed or modifIed to that extent
necessary to affect the proviSions of this ordInance.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause, or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to
be invalid or unconstitutIonal by a decision of any court of
any competent jurIsdIction, such decision shall not affect the
valIdity of the remaining portions of the ordinance. The City
CounCIl hereby declares that It would have passed this
ordinance and each and every sectIon, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase not declared invalid or unconstitutIonal
without regard to whether any portIon of the ordinance would
be subsequently declared invalid or unconstitutional.

SECTION 4. The Mayor sha 11 sign and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of thiS ordinance. The City Clerk
shall cause the same to be published once in the officlal
newspaper within 15 days after its adoptlon. The ordlnance
shall become effective after 30 days from its adoption.
