Request for Approval of Change Order for Offsite
Water Line Construction
Introduction
This report requests that the City Council authorize the city
Manager to approve a change order for offsite water line
construction on Montana Avenue.
Background
On May 27, 1986, the City Council approved contract No. 4686
C. C. S. for water main replacement at various locations in the
amount of $834,200 with Bobeo Construction Company. The work on
this contract is within two weeks of completion. An additional
location, Montana Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets, has been
identified as requiring immediate replacement to facilitate major
street resurfacing between 17th and 26th Streets on Montana
Avenue. The Water Division service and main line crews will be
working on replacing the water l~ne crossings between 19th and
26th streets. Staff proposes to have Bobco Construction replace
the main 1 ine on Montana between 17th and 18th streets (see
attached map), in order that all work will be complete by June 5,
1987 so that resurfacing may begin June 8, 1987.

The cost of this work will be based on the bid items in Contract
No. 4686 C.C.S. but will not exceed $38,000. The exact amount
will depend an the measured footage of water line installed.
While this amount is in excess of the city's $25,000
administrative limit on off-site work it represents only 4.6
percent of the base contract.
B~dget/Financial Analysis
Contingency funds in the amount of $100,000 are available for
Contract No. 4686 c.c.s. in account number 25-760-671-000-920.
Recommendation
staff recommends that the city Council authorize the city Manager
to approve an offsite change order up to $38,000 for water line
installation on Montana Avenue between 17th and 18th streets.
