Subject: Award of Contract to Install a New Motor Control Center
at the Arcadia Water Treatment Plant
INTRODUCTION
This report requests that the City Council award a contract to
furnish and install a new motor control center at the Arcadia
Water Treatment Plant to Industrial Construction and Electrical,
the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $93,600.00.
BACKGROUND
The existing motor control center was installed in approximately
1928 and is the power control center which serves the booster
pumps, new laboratory and shop.
Basically, this piece of
equipment distributes electric power thereby enabling such items
as pumps I shop and laboratory equipment to operate.
The motor
control center performs similar functions as a telephone
switchboard to a communication system. Due to the advanced age
of the equipment and ongoing repair problems, installation of new
equipment is now required.
A Notice Inviting Bids for furnishing and installing this
equipment was published on March 7, and 8, 1990 in the Evening
Outlook and in four construction journals. Bidding packages were
requested by ten contractors and were also forwarded to eleven
minority and women owned business associations. Seven bids were
