SUBJECT: Approval of Resolutlon Authorlzing Development
of Restoration Plan for Santa Monlca Pier.
Bac;kground
The City staff has been informed that State Grant Funds might be available for
the development and implementation of a restoration plan for Santa Monlca Pler.
Approva1 of the attached reso1ution will enable the staff of the State Coastal
Conservancy to asslst the City staff to develop a restoration plan for Santa
Monica Pier.
Recolll11endation
Staff recom~ends that the City Councll approve the attached resolution requestlng
the Coastal Conservancy to aSslst the Clty of Santa Monica in preparing restoratlon
plans for Santa Monica Pler.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA REQUESTING THE CALIFORNIA
COASTAL CONS~RVANCY TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN
THE DEVELOPf1ENT AND IMPLmENTATION OF A
RESTORATION PLAN FOR THE SANTA MONICA PIER
WHEREAS. the Santa Mon1ca Pier has been determined to be an historic landmark
by the landmarks Comml$sion of the C1ty of Santa Monlca; and
WHEREAS. the Santa Mon1ca Pier 1S in need of substantial restoration; and
WHEREAS. a comprehens1ve plan for the restoration of the pler is essent1al;
and
WHEREAS, the City is aware that certaln funds may be available from the
Callfornia Coastal Conservancy for the purpose of the development and implementatlon
of a restoration plan,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. The Clty Council requests that assistance be provided by the
California Coastal Conservancy for the preparation and implementation of a restora-
tlon plan for the Santa Monica Pier.
SECTION 2. The City Council directs the staff to transmlt th1S resolutlon
to the Callfornia Coastal Conservancy and to submlt whatever additlonal informatlon
lt may request.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of th1S resolution
and thenceforth and thereafter the sa~e shall be in full force and effect.
