Parking Assessment Distrlct. Background Presently, ground floor parking spaces in the parking structures are rented for $10 per month per space for people who reside or are employed within the Parking Assessment District or $13 per space per month for those from outslde the Distrlct. As shown on Table 1, there are 175 parking spaces available in all six structures. There is also a current ground floor walting list for these spaces of 163 applicants. The current waiting list of 163 lndividuals lndicates a heavy demand for the most deslrable parking spaces in the struc- tures. Since this demand nearly equals the total amount of spaces presently leased, staff recommends that the current rate of 510 per space per month be increased to $13 per space per month in the ground floor areas only. Staff does not believe that a rate lncrease is warranted at thlS time on the roof level since presently only two thirds of the spaces available are occupied (See Table 1.) Staff contacted Mr. Sam Porter, executlve vice presldent of the Santa Monica 110 MAR 1 4 1978 -~ ~. - - To: Mayor and Council -2- March 6, 1978 Chamber of Commerce, on two occasions. He stated on the last contact that he had had no adverse comment relatlve to the proposed lncrease in ground floor parking rates wlthln the parking structures. It is staff1s opinion that this proposed rate increase is reasonable since a survey taken last month of five parking structures in the City indicate that the rates for covered parking varied from a low of $15 a month to a hlgh of $35 a month. Therefore, the proposed rate increase from $10 to 513 per month on the ground floor reserved covered spaces in the parklng structures is consistent with existing commerc1al rates. Recommendation It 1S recommended that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary resolution implementlng the new rate for monthly parking of $13 for ground floor levels and $8 for roof levels 1n District, and $16 and $11 respectively for parkers from out of the District.
