Proposed OrdInance AuthorIzIng Parking Meters on
PublIcly Owned or Operated ParkIng Lots
At Its meeting on May 19, 1981, the CIty Council directed
the City Attorney to prepare an ordInance to permit installatIon
of parking meters In the parking lot directly south of the Sea
Castle.
An ordinance has been prepared added Section 3393F to
the Santa Monica MunicIpal Code.
This ordinance would Include
all City owned or operated parkIng lots, exceptIng parking lots
owned by the Parking Authority,within a ParkIng Meter Zone F.
Meters could be installed in any parkIng lot at the direction of
the City CounCil and the times of operation of the meters would
be set by resolutIon. (Under Vehicle Code SectIon 22508, the
rates for parking meter zones must be set by ordinance.)
RECOMMENDATION
It IS respectfully recommended that the accompanYIng
ordinance be Introduced for fIrst reading.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ADDING SECTION 3393F TO THE SANTA
MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ORDAINS AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
Section 3393F 1S added to the Santa Mon1ca
Municipal Code to read as follows:
SectIon 3393F. parklng Meter Zone
"F".
( 1 ) All
parking lots owned or
operated by the City of Santa Monlca,
excepting those parking lots owned by the
Parking Authority of the City of Santa
Monica, shall constitute Zone "F".
(2 ) ParkIng a vehicle In a
deSIgnated space In Zone "F" shall be
lawful for 60 minutes upon the deposlt of
25 cents in COln, and for an addl tional
60 minutes for each 25 cents in coin
deposited thereafter.
(3) Parking
meters
shall
be
operated In Zone ~Fu at such times as
establIshed by resolution of the City
CouncIl.

SECTION 2.
Any provislon of the Santa Mon~ca Mun1cipal
Code or appendlces thereto inconsistent herewith, to the extent
of such lnconsistencies and no further, are hereby repealed or
modified to that extent necessar~ to effect the provls1ons of
this ordinance.
SECTION 3. ThlS ordinance, and each part hereof, shall be
fully severable. If any part of this ordinance 1S declared to be
invalid for any reason, such declaratlon of invalidity shall not
affect the remalnlng parts of this ord1nance.
SECTION 4. The Mayor shall sign and the Clty Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once in the official newspaper
within fifteen (15) days after its adoptlon. The ordinance shall
become effective after thirty (30) days from lts adoption.
