Ordinance Adding Municipal Code Section 3396 to
Provlde for Parking Meter Permits
At its meet1ng on February 8, 1983, the C1ty Councl1
dlrected the Clty Attorney to prepare an ordinance to provide for
an on street parklng permlt to be used at des1gnated parking
meters.
In response to this dlrectlon, the accompanYlng
ordinance has been prepared and 1S presented for consideration by
the City Council.
The proposed ordinance adds Section 3396 to the Munlcipal
Code.
This new section provides that the City may issue parklng
permlts to be used at designated parking meters. The designation
of parking meters and the permit fees w1ll be established by
resolution of the City Councl1.
Currently, the Parklng and Trafflc Eng lneer in tends to
recommend only the area bounded by Colorado Boulevard, the east
City limits, Olymplc Boulevard, and Lincoln BOulevard as a
designated area for these permLts.
The recommended fee for the
permlts will be $10 per month.

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ADDING MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 3396
TO AUTHORIZE PARKING METER PERMITS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 3396 of the Santa Monica Municipal Code
~s amended to read as follows:
Section 3396.
Parking Meter
Permits.
Notwithstand~ng any other
provision of th~s Code, any person may
park a vehicle at designated park~ng
spaces in the C~ty wlthout the necess~ty
of depositing coins 1n the meters
adJacent to such space, provided said
vehicle has dlsplayed in the manner
requlred by the Traff~c and Park1ng
Engineer a permit issued by the Clty
authorlz~ng the vehlcle to park in the
space wlthout the necessity of depositing
such COlns and provided the park~ng meter
displays a sign author~zing parking

SECTION 2. Any prov~slon of the Santa Monica Munlcipal
Code or appendlces thereto lnconsistent with the prov~Slons of
this ord~nance, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no
further, are hereby repealed or modlfied to that extent necessary
to affect the provisions of this ordinance.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsectlon, sentence, clause,
or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid
or unconstitutlonal by a decision of any court of any competent
Jurisdlction, such declsion shall not affect the valldlty of the
remainlng portions of the ordlnance. The City Council hereby
declares that it would have passed thlS ordinance and each and
every sectlon, subsection, sentence, clause or phrase not
declared lnvalid or unconstltutional wlthout regard to whether
any portion of the ordlnance would be subsequently declared
lnvalld or unconstltutional.

SECTION 4.
The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ord1nance.
This City Clerk shall
cause the same to be publ~shed once in the offic1al newspaper
within 15 days after its adoption.
The ordinance shall become
effective after 30 days from its adoption.
