SUBJECT: Cable Television Franchise Status
Introduction
This item recommends that the City Council schedule consideration
of award of a cable television franchise to Century Southwest
Cable Television, Inc. for February 23, 1988.
Background
On December 8, 1987 the City Council authorized Staff to continue
negotiations with Century Southwest Cable Television, Inc. and
voted to take no action against Century to enforce either the
expiration or termination of the franchise until February l5,
1988.
Negotiations have proceeded to a point where Staff feels a
proposal is imminent regarding award of a non-exclusive cable
television franchise to Century. However, due to the signiflcant
amount of pUblic interest in this issue, staff feels it is
lmportant to allow sufficient time for the public to be notified
of the meeting and the content of the proposal.
Therefore,
cons~deration of the ltem on February 23 is recommended.
Assuming posltive Council action on the 23rd, staff would proceed
