SUBJECT: ResolutIon AuthorIzIng Acceptance and RecordatIon of
Easement
IntroductIon
ThIS report requests the adoptIon of the attached resolutIon
authorIZIng the CIty Manager to accept and record an easement
from the Santa Monlca-Mallbu UnIfIed School DIstrIct.
Background
The State Department of TransportatIon (Caltrans) WIll design and
construct an on-ramp at Fourth Street to the Santa MonIca
freeway. Part of the deSIgn Includes an access road to the Santa
MonIca High School campus and the undergroundlng of utIlItIes.
ThIS access road reqUIres that a portIon of property owned by the
School DIstrIct be dedIcated to the CIty. The road WIll be
controlled and maIntaIned by the CIty. The easement IS reqUIred
by Caltrans In order to deSIgn and construct the road. Easements
are reqUIred whenever publIC funds are expended for publIC
works's proJects. On AprIl 28, 1986, the Board of EducatIon of
the Santa MonIca Mallbu School DIstrict acted to approve the
grantIng of the easement.

RECOMMENDATION NO. 4
It is recommended that the Board of Education approve an easement
with the City of Santa MonIca tor the use of a portIon of the
Samohl property along Olympic Boulevard for street and utlllty
purposes.
COMMENT: Thls easement is for the purpose of provlding a traffic
eXlt for the Samohi campus and the placement of under-
ground utility systems when the 4th Street On-ramp is
constructed. All Improvements are to be pald by the
City.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE AND
RECORDATION OF A~ EASEMENT FOR STREET AND
UTILITY PURPOSES ALONG OLYMPIC BOULEVARD.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONlCA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. In conJunctlon wlth the constructlon of an
on-ramp at Fourth Street and Olymplc Boulevard at the Westbound
Santa Monlca Freeway. The Clty of Santa Monlca reqUlres an
access road to be provided to the Santa Monlca-Mallbu Unlfled
School Dlstrlct's Santa Monlca High School campus and to dedlcate
rlgnts-of-way In favor of the City to accommodate such publIC
lmprovement.
SECTION 2. The requlred publiC Improve~e~t and
rlghts-of-~ay thereto are deemed necessary to assure avaIlablllty
of prope~ access and to prevent congestlon and other hazards
related to the use of the proposed Fourth Street op-raMp.
S~CTION 3. The Santa MO~lca-Mallbu Unified School
D:strict, a CalIfornia Corporation, as the owner of the subJect
p~operty has executed a grant deed grantIng to the CIty an
easeMer~ for street a~d utIlIty purposes over that portIon of the
Subjec~ property more fully descrIbed In the legal descrlptlo~
a~d drawings attached to saId grant deed as ExhIbIt nAn, A copy
of saId grant deed and ExhibIt A thereto IS on fIle In the CIty
Eng:neer's offlce, City Hall, Santa Monica, Callfornla.

SECTION 4. The grant of such easement by the owner of
the subject property 1S hereby approved and the C1ty Manager 1S
author1zed to accept such ease~ent and record the grant deed with
the Los Angeles County Recorder's offlce.
SECTION 5. The C1ty Cler~ shall certlfy to the
adopt1on of th1S Resolut1on and t~enceforth and thereafter the
same shall be In full force and effect.
