SUbJect: Increasing On-Street Park1ng Meter Rates in VarlOUS Areas of the City
Introduction
This report recommends City Councll 1nstruct the City Attorney to prepare an
ordinance increasing the park1ng meter rates ln Zone C from 5 cents to 10 cents
per hour, and transferrlng Ocean Park Boulevard between 25th Street and Centinela
Avenue from Zone C to Zone D.
Background
One of the Parklng and TrafflC Dlvislonls speciflc goals during the 1980-81
flscal year lS to continue to reVlse park1ng meter rates to reflect current
marketing trends.
The existing park1ng meter rate in Zone C (see attached map) 1S 5 cents per hour.
Staff proposes to increase this to 10 cents per hour. The majority of the
parklng meters in this zone are on slde streets adJolning Santa Mon1ca Boulevard.
In July, 1980 C1ty Council adopted an ordinance expand1ng Parklng Meter Zone D
to lnclude 28th and 31st Streets south of Ocean Park Boulevard. On the north
side of Ocean Park Boulevard betwen 25th Street and Centinela Avenue there are
existing 5 cent per hour meters. These meters are in Zone C. Staff 1S propos1ng
these meters be included ln Zone D. Thus, the rate would be lncreased to 25
cents per hour. Th1S may reduce the effect of Santa Monica Buslness Park employees
encroaching in the resldential neighborhood north of Ocean Park Boulevard.
Staff w1l1 request Clty Council appropriate the necessary funds to convert the
parking meters at the flrst readlng of the ordinance.

Recommendation

and to add Ocean Park Boulevard and all intersect1ng streets 300 feets north
between 25th Street and Centinela Avenue to Park1ng Meter Zone D.
