Resolution Requesting Cal Trans to Restripe
the Westbound Cloverfield Boulevard and
26th street Exit of the Santa Monica Freeway
INTRODUCION
At its meeting on February 24, 1987, the city council
directed the City Attorney to prepare a resolution requesting
that Cal Trans restripe the westbound Cloverfield Boulevard and
26th Street exit of the Santa Monica Freeway so as to permit
vehicles in the center lane to turn left or right. In response
to this direction, the accompanying resolution has been prepared
and is presented to the City Council for adoption.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying
resolution be adopted.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA REQUESTING CALTRANS TO RESTRIPE
THE WESTBOUND SANTA MONICA FREEWAY EXIT AT
CLOVERFIELD BOULEVARD AND 26TH STREET
WHEREAS, there exists an ever increasing back-up of traffic
leaving the westbound Santa Monica Freeway at the Cloverfield
Boulevard and 26th Street exit in Santa Monica, California; and
WHEREAS, the traffic back-up is causing residents of and
visitors to the City of Santa Monica to experience needless
travel delay, and is posing a traffic hazard on the westbound
Santa Monica Freeway; and
WHEREAS, a substantial cause of the problem is an inability
of cars and trucks to turn left onto Cloverfield Boulevard after
exiting the Santa Monica Freeway; and
WHEREAS, one of the solutions to this problem is for
CALTRANS to restripe the three lane throat of the freeway exit so
as to allow one lane of traffic to turn left, one lane of traffic
to turn right, and the center lane of traffic to turn either left
or right and to restripe the off-ramp and freeway to permit right
turning vehicles to drive on the shoulder,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1.
The City of Santa Monica hereby requests
CALTRANS to restripe as expeditiously as possible the three lane
throat of the westbound Cloverfield Boulevard and 26th Street
exit of the Santa Monica Freeway so as to permit one lane of
traffic to turn left, one lane of traffic to turn right, and the
center lane of traffic to turn left or right onto Cloverfield
Boulevard and to restripe the off-ramp and freeway to permit
right turning vehicles to drive on the shoulder.
SECTION 2 .
The City of Santa Monica hereby publicly
supports such activities as are necessary to accomplish the
restriping of the westbound Santa Monica Freeway exit at
Cloverfield and 26th street.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be
in full force and effect.
