SUBJECT: Recommendation to Adopt a Resolution Declaring May
17-23, 1987 Public Works Week.
Introduction
This report recommends that the Council adopt a resolution
declaring May 17-23, 1987 Public Works Week in the city of Santa
Monica.
Background
The American Public Works Association, in cooperation with
several governmental, engineering I and other associations I has
designated May 17-23, 1987 to be National Public Works Week. The
week has been designated as such in order to recognize the vital
services performed as a part of the Public Works function. Such
health safety and comfort-promoting services include civil and
traffic engineering I street cleaning and maintenance, public
facility maintenance I refuse collection, recycling, pier and
harbor management, cemetery management, water I and wastewater.
BUdget/Financial Impact
There is no budget/financial impact attached to this proposed
resolution.
Recommendation
1. Staff recommends that the Council adopt the attached
resolution which declares May 17-23, 1987 Public Works Week.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA DECLARING MAY 17-23, 1987
PUBLIC WORKS WEEK
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS, pUblic works services provided in the City of
Santa Monica are an integral part of our citizens I everyday
lives; and
WHEREAS, the support and understanding of the City's
citizens are vital to the efficient operation of public works
systems and programs such as ci viI engineering, traffic
engineering, street cleaning and maintenance, refuse collection,
recycling, public buildings, pier and harbor, cemetery, water,
and wastewater~ and
WHEREAS, the health, safety, and comfort of the
citizens of the City of Santa Monica greatly depend on these
facilities and services: and
WHEREAS I the quality and effectiveness of these
facilities and services, as well as their planning, design,
constructionl and deliverYI are vitally dependent upon the
efforts and skill of pUblic works officials; and
WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated
personnel who staff Public Works Department is materially
