SUbJect: Proposed MaIn Street Shuttle to Beach ParkIng Lot
IntroductIon
ThIS report recommends that the CIty Manager be authorized
to establIsh a nIghttIme shuttle serVice to and from the Maln
Street area to the south beach parklng lot to improve the parking
and traffic cIrculatIon problem 1n the Main Street bUSiness area.
Background
For several years the MaIn Street Merchants and the CIty
have explored the implementatlon of a shuttle serVIce between the
MaIn Street area and the south beach parkIng lot to Improve the
MaIn Street parkIng and CIrculatIon problems. The purpose of a
shuttle would be to prOVIde access to off-site parkIng for the
employees and customers to the Main Street businesses.
Previous attempts to create a shuttle system faIled In part
due to the high cost of leaslng a tram and of obtaining a driver.
However, the recent lntroductlon of the AmerIcan Trolley shuttle
system has created a new opportunIty for prOVIding a shuttle ser-
Vlce to the south beach parkIng lot, because the equipment and
drlvers of this system are avaIlable at a more reasonable rate
than other avallable rentals or tram/van charters.
