Ordinance Amending Santa Monica Municipal Code
Sections 3393A, 3393B, 3393C, 3393D, 3393E, and
3393F and Repealing Municipal Code section 3393G
Increasing Parking Meter Rates and Authorizing
Parking Meters to Be Placed on Various city Streets
At its meeting on May 9, 1989, the city council directed
the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance amending applicable
provisions of the Municipal Code to increase parking meter rates
and establ ish parking meter zones for additional streets. In
response to this direction, the accompanying ordinance has been
prepared and is presented to the City Council for its
consideration.
Currently, Municipal Code sections 3393A through 3393G
establish seven parking meter zones in the city. These sections
have been revised to create six parking meter zones establishing
the rate structure approved by the City Council at its meeting on
May 9, 1989.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the accompanying
ordinance be introduced for first reading.

CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL
CODE SECTIONS 3393A, 3393B, 3393C, 3393D, 3393E,
AND 3393F AND REPEALING MUNICIPAL CODE SECTION 3393G
INCREASING PARKING METER RATES AND AUTHORIZING

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Santa Monica Municipal Code Seetlon 339 3A is
amended to read as follows:
SECTION 339 3A.
parking Meter Zone
"A.II
( a)
The
following
named
and
descrlbed streets or portlons of streets
Wl.thln the city shall constitute Zone "A:"
(I) All of Montana Avenue
from~ 7th street to 17th street and all
side streets intersecting Montana Avenue
from that intersection to a point where
commercially zoned parcels end.
(2) Twenty-Sixth street from
Georgina Avenue to San Vicente Boulavard.

(3) All streets lYlng wlthin
the area bounded by Ocean Avenue, Lincoln
Boulevard, Californla Avenue, and pico
Boulevard, including both sides of the
boundary streets, except that Ocean
Avenue, Main street, the City Hall Parking
Lot, and Pico Boulevard between Third
street and Ocean Avenue shall be excluded
from such area.
(4) All streets within the
City not specifically included in any
other Zone.
(5) All streets lying within
the area bounded by wilshire Boulevard,
Santa Monica Boulevard, Lincoln Boulevard,
and the eastern City limits, including
both sldes of the boundary streets.
(6) All side streets
intersecting Wilshire Boulevard or Santa
Monica Boulevard from that intersection
poi~t to a point where commercially zoned
parcels end.
(7) Ocean Park Boulevard
betvleen 25th Street and Centinela Avenue
and all streets intersecting Ocean Park
Boulevard from that 1ntersection to a

and established by the City Council by
resolution.

amended to read as follows:

posted by the Park1ng and Traffic Engineer
and established by the city council by

designated space in Zone "E" shall be
lawful for 60 minutes upon the deposit of
twenty-five cents ($.25) in co~n, and for
an addltJ.onal 60 mlnutes for each
twenty-five cents ($.25) in coin deposlted
thereafter.
(c) Parking meters shall be
operated in Zone "E" at such times as
posted by the Parking and Traffic Engineer
and established by the City council by
resolutlon.

SECTION 8. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code or appendlces thereto inconsistent with the provisions of
this Ordinance, to the extent of such inconsistencies and no
further, ar~ h~reby repealed or mod~f~ed to that extent necessary
to affect the provislons of this Ord~nance.
SECTION 9. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause,
or phrase of this Ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid
or unconstitut~onal by a decision of any court of any competent
Jurisdiction, such decision shall not affect the validlty of the
rernaln1.ng portions of this ordinance. The City Councll hereby

declares that it would have passed thlS Ordinance, and each and
every section, subsectlon, sentence, clause, or phrase not
declared lnvalld or unconstltutional without regard to whether
any portion of the Ordinance would be subsequently declared
lnvalld or unconstltutlonal.
SECTION 10. The Mayor shall sign and the Clty Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this Ordinance.
The city Clerk shall
cause the same to be published once In the official newspaper
wlthin 15 days after ltS adoption. ThlS Ordinance shall beCOMe
effective after 30 days from its adoption.
