SUBJECT: Cable Television Franchise status
Introduction
This item recommends that the City Council direct staff to
continue discussions with century Southwest Cable Television,
Inc. to develop a more precisely worded proposed settlement and
franchise agreement prior to having public discussion and council
consideration of any proposal.
Background
As described in previous staff reports, City staff has been
negotiating with Century Southwest Cable Televisionl Inc.
regarding
a
possible
franchise
agreement
proposal
for
recommendation to the city Council.
While substantive agreement was reached several months ago on the
major pointsl Staff feels it is important to have the precise
language of any proposed agreement signed off by century prior to
public discussion and Council consideration of the item to
prevent possible misunderstandings about the nature or intent of
the suggested provisions. To date, the city has only received
verbal concurrence by Century to the discussion points.
