Background
Pn.or to August, 1975, the library lot had 32 tJr,Q hour rreters and the
Parking Author1ty Lot No. 18 had 64 two hour n:eters and 24 five hour
neters. (Attach 1)
In 1975, the average occupancy for the NaJJl T,ihrary and Parking Authority

of the velucles parkmg in IDt No. 18 park all day. The f1ve hour
parkmg linut is not restrlctive enough to discourage General Telefhone
errployees from parkll1g in the lot.
Staff proposes to reduce the existlng f1.ve hour parklng bruit to three
hours as a short te:rm solutlon.
The real problem 1.S the lack of parking to supfX)rt the demand placed
by the M::tin Ll.brary. 'Ihe only long tem solutlOn to the parkll1g problem
is to purchase adjacent property for addltional parking or to build a
structure over the existing l1.brary lot and Parkmg Authority lot. 'Ihe
cost of a parking structure 1S eshIrated at $6000 per parking sJ?aces.
Serre of the cost nay be offset by sel1mg penni ts and assessmg General

Reconrrendation
It is recoITUEI1ded the Parking Authority change the five hour parking

of prov~ding addiuonal parkmg 111 the area of the M:un LIbrary.
