BACKGROUND In January 1989, PacTel Cellular requested that the City of Santa Monica negotiate a fifteen-year lease with them for a portion of the Charnock Water Well Field for the installation of a communications facility. The unmanned facility will consist of a 484 square foot equipment/relay building and an appurtenant monopole antenna. The purpose of the lease is to improve and expand the cellular communications in Southern California. The Charnock Water Well Field is located between Butler Avenue and Sawtelle Boulevard in the City of Los Angeles. PacTel is interested in leasing 2,500 square feet of the property at the northwest corner of Corinth Avenue and westminster Avenue. 6-~ - 1 - JUN 1 3 1989 . . Staff has determined that such a lease would not interfere with existlng pumping facilities or the expansion of such facilities. BUDGET/FINANCIAL IMPACT Such a lease would generate approximately $1,075.00 per month. This fee is based on $.43 per square foot charge which was determined by a December 1988 fair market rental appraisal of the property. The fee would be adj usted every year based on the Consumer Price Index. Revenues from the lease agreement would be received in Revenue Account 25-914-235-000-000. RECOMMENDATION staff recommends that the City Council authorize the city Manager to negotiate and execute an agreement with Pactel Cellular for the fifteen-year lease of 2,500 square feet of land at the Charnock Water Well Field.
