Introductlon
ThlS report requests the City Councll to award a contract for water maln
construction to Five States Plumbing Company in the amount of $505,200.00.
Blds were opened Aprl1 25. 1980.
Background
The City budgeted for the replacement of mains in the areas listed below in
Fiscal Year 1979-80 in the amount of $580.000.00. The Engineers Estlmate
prlor to bld was $734,917.00.
Malns will be located at:
12" Main ln t40ntana Avenue from Ocean Avenue to Euclld Court
(provldes loop in system)
8" Maln In Arizona Avenue from Lincoln Court to 14th Court
(provides loop in system and provides better serVlce to S.M. Hospital)
12" Main in Manne Street from MalO Street to Llncoln Boulevard
(replaces lO")
This main replacement will enhance the abillty to provide fire protection.
wl11 provlde for lncreased water demand throughout these areas, and will replace
deteriorated and unllned 8" and lO" diameter pipe.
Additlonal benefits expected will be a decrease in the number of water quality
complalnts and water main breaks. Breaks not only waste large amounts of
water but frequently cause costly damage to publlc and private property.
