Introductlon
ThlS rep 0 rt requests the Clty (ouncll set a publle hearing for
January 11, 1983, to hear protests regardlng the work and conflrm
the assessments of the cost to repalr damaged sldewalks, driveways
and curbs.
Background
On October 9, 1979, the Clty Counell approved a sldewalk repalr
program which provided for property owner participatlon ln the
cost of repalrlng damaged sldewalks. Property owner participatlon
1 s 50% of the cost of the repalrs If the damage 1 S related to tree
roots; the Clty wl11 pay the remalnlng 50% of the cost of the
repalr. Property owners are assessed 100% of the cost lf the
damage 1 s not related to tree roots.
Certain repair work has been completed at the following addresses
and the property owners' share of the costs are now due: 2142 21st
Street, 830 Yale, 2202 21st Street, 2212 21st Street, 2228 21st
Street, 2232 21st Street, 2210 21s t Street, 824 Yale, 842 Yale,
507 Lincoln, 2242 21st Street and 2236 21st Street. A public

withln the City. It 1 S recommended that Councll adopt the
attached Resolutlon conflrming the assessment of costs.

November 23, 1982, an the assessment of costs to repalr damaged
sldewalks. driveways and curbs wlthln the Clty of Santa Monica.
Letters were malled to each property owner 1n accordance wlth the
legal requlrements of Chapter 22 of the Improvement Act of 1911
informlng them of the public hearing on November 23) 1982.
Recommendatlon
It 15 recommended the City Council:
1- Open the Public Hearlng;
2. Close the Publ1C Hearlng and acknowledge any protests; and
3. Adopt the Resolutlon conflrmlng the assessments.

AND/OR REMOVAL OF OBSTRUCTIONS, PERFORMED
UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7, CHAPTER 22,
SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF TH E STREETS AND
HIGHWAYS CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
(SR-82-37)
Pursuant to the proVlslons of Divlslon 7. Chapter 22.
Sectlons 5600 to 5630. of the Streets and Highways Code of the
State of Callfornla. the followlng work was caused to be done by
the Street Superintendent.
The removal and replacement of 690 square feet
of PC concrete on sidewalks at $4.00 per
square foot;
The removal and replacement of 206 square feet
of PC concrete on driveways at $5.00 per
square foot; and
The removal and replacement of 230 lineal feet
of PC concrete on curbs at $10.00 per lineal
foot.
The total cost of the above work was $4,020.00.
The total proposed assessment for the above sidewalk and
cu rb damage is $2~OlO.OO or 50 percent of the total co~t. The
other 50 percent of the cost is belng pald by the City as the
above repa1rs were caused by tree root damage.
The removal and replacement of 40 square feet
of PC concrete at $4.00 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 121 square feet
of PC concrete at $5.00 per square foot;
The removal and replacement of 26 llneal feet
of PC concrete curb at $10.00 per llneal foot;
and
The removal of 35 square feet of PC concrete
at $2.00 per square foot.

Highways Co de, commenced proceedings to cause the repalf of
