1985, on tne Assessment of Costs to Repalr Damaged
SIdewalks, DrIveways, and Curos on VarIOUS Streets

IntroductIon
ThlS report requests the Clty CounCIl set a publIC hearlng for
August 27, 1985, to near protests regardIng the work and confIrm
the assessments of the cost to cepalr damaged sldewalks,
drIveways and curbs.
Backsround
On October 9, 1979, the Clty Councll approved a s1dewalk repalr
program Whlch provlded for property owner partlclpation ln the
cost of repalclng damaged s1.dewalks. Residentlal property owner
partlclpatlon IS 50% of the cost of the repaIrs If the damage 1S
related to tree roots; the Clty pays the remaInIng 50% of the
cost of the repa1r. Property owners are assessed 100% of the
cost If the damage IS not related to tree roots and commercial
property owners are assessed 100% of the cost regardless of the
cause of the damage.
Certa10 repalr work has been completed at the following addresses
and the property owners' share of the costs IS now due for the
follOWIng propertIes: 2509 lath St. , 2614 31st St. , 2640 31st

derIved from thIs assessment dIstrIct over the next two years,
wIll be presented to CIty Councll at the tIme of publIC hearIng.
RecommendatIon
It 15 recommended the CIty CouncIl adopt the attached Resolut1on
settIng a pUblIC hearlng for August 27, 1985, on the assessment
of costs of the subject sldewalk repairs.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA SETTING A HEARING
DATE FOR ANY PRo'rESTS OR OBJECTIOiiJS TO
THE REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT OF
STREErs REGARDING REPAIR OF SIDEWALKS,
DRIVEWAYS AND CURBS (SR-85-69)
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY
RESOLVE AS FOLLOwS:

SECTION l. The Superintendent of Streets will file a
report of repair pursuant to See tion 5617 of the Streets and
Highways Code of the State of Californla, relatlng to the
constructlon of certa1n lmprovements to sldewalks and driveways
at 2509 18th St. , 2614 31st St., 2640 31st St. , 1666 Ashland
Ave. , 1814 Hill St., 1634 Hill St. , 2417 Hlll St. , 2470 Ocean
Park Blvd., 1700 Ocean Park 81 vd. , 1736 Oak St. , 1752 Oak St.,
1746 Oak St., 1043 Pine, 1001 Plne, 1221 Mlchlgan Ave., and 2424
Eucl1d St. all withln the City of Santa Monlca.
SECTION 2. Pursuant to Section 5600 et seg. of sald
code, the City Council does hereby order and declare that on the
10th day of Sept~,1985, at 7:30 P.M., in the CouncIl Chambers
of the CIty Hall, It w~ll hear and pass upon the report by the
Superlntendent of Streets of the cost of repaIr, together w1th
any objectlons or protests, If any, WhlCh may be ralsed by any
property owner liable to be assessed for tne cost of such repa1r
and any other Interested persons.

SECTION 3. All protests or objections must be in wr1tlng
and flIed wlth the Clty Clerk on or before the time set for
hearIng of protests and Ob)ect1ons.
SECTION 4. The Superintendent of Streets 1S hereby
dJ.rected to mall notices, in the manner and form prescribed by
law, of the cost of repair and of the adoptIon of this ResolutIon
to all persons owning real property affected by the sidewalk
assessment repalr program, whose names and addresses appear on
the last equalIzed assessment roll for the City taxes or as known
to the Clty Clerk.
SECTION 5. The Clty Clerk shall certIfy to the adopting
of thIS Resolutlon and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be 1n full force and effect.
