assessment of costs to repaIr damaged sidewalks, drlveways and curbs
at var lOUS areas wI thin the CIty.
It IS recommended that CounCIl
adopt the attached ResolutIon conflrmlng the assessment of costs.
Background
On July 30, 1985, the Clty Counc11 set a pub11C hearIng for September
10, 19t15, on tne assessment of costs to repaIr damaged sldewalks,
drIveways and curbs wlthln the C1ty of Santa Monlca.
Letters were
ma11ed ten days 1n advance (August 30, 1985) to property owners
1nform1ng them of the publIC hear 109 1n accordance WI th the legal
requIrements of Chapter 22 of the Improvement Act of 1911.
Budget/Flnanclal Impact
ThIS assessment dlstrlct w111 generate revenues to the CIty over the
next two years In the amount of :;;3,133.25..

STREET SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, CURBS AND/OR REMOVAL
OF OBSTRUCTIONS, PERFORMED UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7,
CHAPTER 22, SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS
CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA (SR-85-6g)
Pursuant to the provIsions of DIVISIOr. 7, Chapter 22, SectIons
5600 of 5630, of the Streets and HIghways Code of the State of
Call forra a, the followIng work was caused to be done by the Str eet
SuperIntendent:
The removal and replacement of 75 lIneal feet of SIdewalk at
$3 per lIneal foot;
The removal and replacement of 36.5 lIneal feet of cubIng at
$10 per lIneal foot;
The removal and replacement of 1094.5 square feet of SIdewalk
at $4 per square foot;
The ~emov a1 0 f 264.25 lIneal feet 0 f PC concrete at $2 per
lIneal foot; and
The removal and replacement of 106 square feet of PC concrete
on driveways at $5 per square foot.
The total cost of the above work was $6,026.50
The total proposed assesment for the above SIdewalk and curb
damage IS $3,013.25 or 50 percent of the total cost.
The other 50
percent of the cost IS beIng paId by the CI ty as the above repaIr'S
were caused by tree root damage.
The removal and replacement of 30 square feet of PC concrete
on SIdewalks at $4 per square foot; and
The total proposed assessment for SIdewalks and curbs IS
$120.00 or 100 percent of the total cost as the damage was not related
to to tree roots.

MONICA CONFIRMING THE REPORT OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
OF STREETS REGARDING REPAIRS TO DAMAGED SIDEWALKS,
DRIVEWAYS AND CURBS (SR-85-69)
WHEREAS, the Street Supe~lntendent of the CIty of Santa
Monica, pursuant to SectIon 5600 to 5630 of the Streets and Highways
Code, commenced proceedings to cause the ~epaI~ of damaged sIdewalks,
drIveways and curbs In the CIty of Santa MonIca at 1814 HIll St., 1746
Oak St., 1752 Oak St., 2509 18th St., 2614 31st St., 2640 31st St.,
1634 HIll St., 2417 H1Il St., 2470 Ocean Park Blvd., 1700 Ocean Park
Blvd., 1736 Oak St., 1043 PUie St., 1001 PU1e St., 1221 MichIgan Ave.,
2424 Euclid St., 1666 Ashland Ave., and
WHEREAS, SIxty days after said order was served, the work had
not been completed by the owners or persons In possession of the
affected propertIes, and the SuperIntendent of Streets caused the work
to be donej ar..d
WHEREAS, the SuperIntendent of Streets gave the notice
requl~ed by Sectlon 5616 of the Streets and HIghways Code; and
WHEREAS, the SuperIntendent of St~eets dId fIle with the Clty
Council of the CIty of Santa MonIca hIS ~eport of repaIrs and cost as
requIred by Section 5617 of t~e Streets and Hlghways Code; and
WHEREAS, upon the day a~d hour fIxed for hearIng by Resolutloo
Number 7057 (CeS), the CIty CouncIl of the CIty of Santa Monica heard
and passed upon the report of the SuperIntendent of Streets together
with all ObjectIons and protests as requI~ed by SectIon 5618 of the
Streets and HIghways Code;

NOW, THEREFORE, THE Clry COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANrA MONICA
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOwS:
SECTION 1.
The report of the Superintendent of Streets
heretofore filed and above-descrIbed be and the same is hereby
confIrmed.
SECTION 2.
All protests and ob] ectlons of every kInd and
nat~[e to the report of the SuperIntendent of Streets be and the same
are hereby overruled and denIed.
SECTION 3.
'fhe cost of the repaIrs, as set forth In the
report of the SuperIntendent of Streets, shall be assessed against the
propertIes thereIn descrIbed, WhICh propertIes front upon the sIdewalk
upon WhICh the repairs were made.
SECTION 4 v
If such assessment lS not paId WI thIn the tIme
permItted by law, the same shall constItute a special assessment
agaInst and lIen on the properties thereIn descrIbed, In the amount
set forth In the report of the Superintendent of Streets, WhICh lIen
shall cont1.nue untIl the assessment and all Interest thereon lS paid
or untIl It IS dIscharged of record.
SECT ION 5 v
If the assessment is not paid wi thin toe tIme
peenl tted by law, the Super lntendent of Streets, In accordance wi th
Sectlon 5628 of the Streets and Highways Code, shall delIver a Notlce
of Llen, prepared ~n the manner reqUIred by SectIon 5626 of the
Streets and Hlghways Code, to the County Auditor who shall collect the
assessment together with all other taxes against the property~

SECTION 6~ The Clty Clerk shall certify to the adoptlon of
this resolutlon and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be In
