1985, on the Assessment of Costs to Repair Damaged
Sidewalks, Driveways, and Curbs on Varlous Streets
(SR-85-73)
Introduction
Th1s report requests the City Counc1l set a publ1c hearing for
December lO, 1985, to hear protests regarding the work and
confirm the assessments of the cost to repair damaged sldewalks,
drlveways and curbs.
Background
On Dc tober 9, 1979, the Clty Council approved a sidewalk repa1r
program which prov1ded for property owner participation in the
cost of repalr1ng damaged SidewalKs. Residentlal property owner
partielpation is 50% of the cost of the repairs if the damage is
related to tree roots; the City pays the remalning 50% of the
cost of the repa1r. Property owners are assessed 100% of the
cost if the damage is not related to tree roots and commerc1al
property owners are assessed 100% of the cost regardless of the
cause of the damage.
Certain repair work has been completed at the following addresses
and the property owners' share of the costs 15 now due for the
fo11owlng properties: 1843 9th Street, 1823 Michigan Avenue, 430
Broadway, 2802 1/2 Delaware Avenue, 647 Ashland Avenue, 3340
Delaware Avenue, 823 Pine Street, 1007 Ocean Avenue, 2921 Main

A hear ing must be held pursuant to the proVisions of Chapter 22,
Sect10ns 5600 to 5630, of the Streets and H1ghways Code of the
State of Callfornla. A Resolution sett1ng the publlc hearlng for
December 10, 1985, 1S attached.

Recommendation
It lS recommended tne Clty Councll adopt the attached Resolution

of costs of the SUbJect Sidewalk repairs.

SECTION l. The Super1ntendent of Streets will file a
report of repa1r pursuant to Section 5617 of the Streets and
Highways Code of the 3tate of Cal~fornla, relatlng to the

SECTION 4. The SuperIntendent of Streets 1S hereby
dIrected to ma1l notices, ln the manner and form prescr~bed by
law, of the cost of repair and of the adoptlon of thlS ResolutIon
to all persons ownlng real property affected by the sidewalk.
