Introduction
ThlS report requests the Clty Council hold a pub11C hearing for the
assessment of costs to repalr damaged s1dewalks, drlveways and curbs
at variOUS areas within the City. It is recommended that Counell
adopt the attached Resolutlon confirming the assessment of costs.
Background
On November 26, 1985, the Clty Council set a public hearing for
December 10, 1985, on the assessment of costs to repair damaged
sldewalks, drlveways and curbs withln the Clty of Santa Monica.
Letters were ma1led ten days ln advance (November 27, 1985) to

property owners lnformlng them of the public hearlng ln accordance
With tne legal requ1rements of Chapter 22 of the Improvement Act of
1911.
Budget/Flnancial Iml?act
ThiS assessment dlstrlct w111 generate revenues to the City over the
next two years ln the amount of $8,370.00. (Any unpa1d assessments
wlll be placed on the 1986 property tax blll.)

It is recommended the Clty Council:
l. Open the public hearlng;
2. Close the publlc hearing and acknowledge any protests; and
3. Adopt the attached Resolutlon conflrmlng the assessments.

STREET SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT
REPAIR OF DAMAGED SIDEWALKS, DRIVEwAYS, CURBS AND/OR REMOVAL
OF OBS'rROCT IONS, PERFORMED UNDER PROVISIONS OF DIVISION 7,
CHAPrER 22, SECTIONS 5600 TO 5630, OF THE STREETS AND HIGHWAYS
CODE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA (SR-85-73)
Pursuant to the provlsions of D1V1Slon 7, Chapter 22, Seetions
5600 of 5630, of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of
Callfornla, the followlng work was caused to be done by the Street
SuperIntendent:
The removal and replacement of 983.00 square feet of s~dewalk
at $4 per Ilneal foot.
The total cost of the above work was $3,932.00.
The total proposed assesment for the above sidewalk and curb
damage 1S $1,966.00 or 50 percent of the total cost. The o th e r 50
percent of the cost lS belng paId by the C1ty as the above repalrs
were caused by tree root damage.
The removal and replaeement of 20 lineal feet of PC concrete
curb at $10 per lineal foot; and
The removal and replacement of 1,526 square feet of PC
concrete Sidewalks at $4 per square foot; and
The removal and replacement of 20 square feet of PC concrete
on driveways at $5 per square foot.
The total proposed assessment for Sidewalks and curbs is
$6,404.00 or 100 percent of the total cost as the damage was not
related to tree roots.

Monlca, pursuant to Section 5600 to 5630 of the Streets and Highways
Code, commenced proceedinJs to cause the repalr of damaged s1dewalks,
